Stashes in GTA 6
A stash is the catch-all for finds that belong to no counted set: a hidden crate, a cache, a bag somewhere unlikely. Earlier Rockstar games did not count them towards completion, and people hunted them anyway.
What is known
GTA 5 had no stash category as such — it had sets with counters. RDR 2 introduced stashes proper: hidden crates of money and items scattered across the map with no overall counter and no reward for clearing them.
The difference matters. A set is hunted for the percentage, a stash for what is inside. So stashes have no correct order to work through, and they do not disappear from the world if you walk past.
Where to look
Where Rockstar puts stashes:
| Kind of place | Example from earlier games | What makes it hard |
|---|---|---|
| Derelict buildings | Crates in ruins and abandoned farms in RDR 2 | The building is not marked on the map |
| Under bridges and decking | Caches in the recesses of supports | Nothing shows from above |
| Interiors | Crates in cellars and attics | The door is often on the far side |
| Behind an obstacle | Stashes behind locked doors and grilles | Needs a tool |
| In water | Crates on the bottom by the quays | Needs diving |
What all five share: the place looks ordinary until you know something is there. That is why a hint is worth more on a stash than on a set — a coordinate gets you to the right building, a hint tells you where to look inside it.
What does not open straight away
What stands between you and a stash:
Orange depends on how far you have played. Blue depends on what you brought with you.
Using the map
The map can show stashes alone — the other categories drop away and progress is counted for them on their own.
You can add a region inside that view and get, say, every stash in Vice City on one screen. The address of that page can be copied and sent — it opens on someone else's screen in exactly the same state.
What appears after launch
From 19 November this page will carry the stash list with a counter, how-to-find notes and a source link on every marker.
Until an item has been found and backed by a link, it is not on the map. For stashes the rule bites hardest: their locations are the ones traded on hearsay most often.
GTA 5 and RDR 2 figures are verified against the PlayStation and Xbox achievement lists. GTA 6 information is drawn only from official Rockstar material as of 25 September 2026, including the “An Extended Look” showcase of 27 August.
