GTA 6 collectibles: what to expect
Rockstar has said nothing about collectibles in GTA 6. But over the last thirteen years the studio has shipped two enormous open worlds built around them, and the direction of travel between the two is clear. Here is where it points.
What is officially confirmed
Almost nothing. Pre-orders opened on 25 June, there are two editions, and the release is set for 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. No official material contains a list of sets, a counter, or even confirmation that collectibles will appear in their usual form.
Which means any "complete list of GTA 6 collectibles" published today is invented. There is nothing to check it against. That is not the same as knowing nothing.
GTA 5 (2013): counters
In GTA 5 the design is plain. A set of identical objects scattered across the state, a counter, and a reward for clearing it.
| Set | Count | What you need to start | What it gives |
|---|---|---|---|
| Letter Scraps | 50 | nothing, available almost immediately | reveals the murder of Leonora Johnson and leads to her killer |
| Spaceship Parts | 50 | meeting the stranger Omega | a mission and the unique Space Docker |
| Nuclear Waste | 30 | the Sonar Collections Dock at $250,000, plus a submersible | roughly $23,000 a barrel, about $690,000 for all of them |
| Submarine Parts | 30 | a submersible and diving | a mission on Abigail's strand |
| Monkey Mosaics | 50 | nothing | a unique vehicle |
| Peyote Plants | 27 | nothing | turning into animals |
| Epsilon Tracts | 10 | registering on the in-game Epsilon site | progress along the cult strand |
Counted separately are the things collected by action rather than pickup: 50 stunt jumps, 50 under-the-bridge flights, 15 knife flights.
The sets themselves are unsophisticated: a glowing object, a hum as you approach, one more on the counter. But two of their properties, minor-looking at the time, turned out to matter more than anything else.
First, some items are locked until a point in the story. Spaceship Parts do not appear on the map until you have met Omega. Nuclear Waste cannot be collected until the dock is bought, and the dock is not for sale until a particular story mission is done.
Second, some items require equipment. Nuclear Waste and Submarine Parts sit on the ocean floor. Without a submersible they are not "hard" to reach — they are physically unreachable.
Hence the most common way to waste time in GTA 5: you open a map with all fifty markers, drive to the nearest one, and find nothing there. Not because the map is lying, but because you are on the wrong chapter or carrying the wrong kit.
RDR 2 (2018): strands
Five years later the same studio did the same thing in an entirely different way.
| Set | Count | Who you hand it to |
|---|---|---|
| Cigarette Cards | 144 (12 sets of 12) | Phineas T. Ramsbottom, by mail |
| Dinosaur Bones | 30 | Deborah MacGuiness |
| Dreamcatchers | 20 | nobody, a find in its own right |
| Legendary Fish | 13 | the angler stranger strand |
| Rock Carvings | 10 | Francis Sinclair |
| Exotics | 5 requests | Algernon Wasp |
| Hunting Requests | 5 | the hunter strand |
The difference is immediate. The sets got smaller and more varied, but each one gained a person at the other end. You are not just closing a counter — you copy down coordinates, post them, wait a day of in-game time, collect the reply at a post office and ride out to a hut. The collectible stopped being an object and became a small story.
What changed between 2013 and 2018
- More sets, smaller sets. GTA 5 has two sets of 50 and two of 30. RDR 2 has 30, 20, 13, 10 and several of 5. Collecting fifty identical objects is dull, and Rockstar appears to have noticed.
- Every set got a character. Handing in a find became its own action with its own place on the map.
- Gating got subtler. In GTA 5 an item is either available or it is not. RDR 2 added mail, waiting and travel — steps that come after everything has already been found.
- "100%" and "collect everything" came apart. In GTA 5 they were near enough the same thing. In RDR 2 they are noticeably different jobs.
What follows for GTA 6
What comes next is inference, not fact. The confidence levels are honest.
What this means if you plan to collect it all
The practical lesson from both games is the same: time is lost not on searching but on wasted journeys.
The two reasons a player travels for nothing are known in advance. They do not know what is already open at their point in the story. And they do not know what they need to be carrying for an item to be picked up at all. An ordinary collectibles map answers neither question — it shows every marker at once, including the ones you personally cannot reach yet.
That is why our map has two filters built in from the start that most do not have: by story chapter and by required equipment. Right now it runs on demo markers — real data arrives from 19 November. The structure exists in advance precisely because GTA 5 and RDR 2 make it obvious which questions will be asked. The same goes for the split into seven regions: people search for "all stashes in Vice City", not "all stashes".
One last honest note. In the first days after release nobody will have exact data. There is no PC version at launch, so nobody is unpacking the game files, and everyone — us included — will be watching the same streams. So our unconfirmed markers are labelled unconfirmed rather than presented as fact. Within a week half of them will be confirmed, some will turn out to be wrong, and you will see which is which.
Counts in the tables are verified against the PlayStation and Xbox achievement lists and public guides. GTA 6 information is drawn only from official Rockstar material as of 9 August 2026.
